Niagara Falls : Then and Now

A photographic journey through the years

July 1 - September 4, 2017

Discover historical Niagara Falls with photographs from our Local History Collection.
Take a virtual tour of the city through the years from your home, or get out there and walk the streets in person with this mobile friendly website. We will be continuing to add photos and locations, so check back often.
The Library gratefully acknowledges the work of City Historian Sherman Zavitz. Many of the descriptions of these photos were adapted from his Niagara Falls Review column Niagara - Then and Now
Between Canada Day and Labour Day 2017, many of the locations on our virtual tour will be displaying physical copies of the photographs in their windows - check the photo descriptions to see which ones.  If you head out to look at the buildings and photos in person, let us know!  Tweet us at @NFLibrary or find us on Facebook at @NFPublicLibrary.
We'd love to hear what you have to say about the photos - the Niagara Falls Public Library and the Niagara Falls Museums are partnering to conduct round table local history discussions based on the photos from Canada 150: Niagara Falls - Then and Now. Please come and share your stories of the city through the years, and help us preserve our oral history for future generations.  The next session will be August 17th, 2:00 p.m. at the Stamford Centre Library.

See the MAP or a LIST of participating locations.

This initiative is made possible by the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th, a collaboration between Niagara Falls Public Library, the Government of Canada, and extraordinary leaders from coast to coast to coast.
