Diamond Jubilee School

Diamond Jubilee school on Dorchester Road was built in 1927, which was the Diamond Jubilee (60th) anniversary of Canadian Confederation. It was constructed near the Green’s Corners overcrowded school, and boasted 4 classrooms.

Diamond Jubliee had many extensions and upgrades through the years, especially in 1948, when new classrooms, a library, a gym anda  teachers’ lounge were added. The new detached building offered “ultra-modern” features such as radiant heating.

The school was considered for closing more than once, but finally, after celebrating its 75th anniversary, “declining enrolment” was cited by the District School Board, and Diamond Jubliee’s 122 students were transferred to Princess Margaret school.

The building is still used as an educational facility by Pathways Academy and Early Learning Centre.

There will be a poster of a historic photo on site at this location during the summer of 2017.
