The City of Niagara Falls had amalgamated with the Township of Stamford in 1963, and by January 1970, had expanded to include Willoughby Township, the Village of Chippawa, and parts of Crowland Township and Humberstone. The old City Hall was far too small, and a new City Hall, seen here under construction in 1969, officially opened on May 23rd, 1970. It was large enough that all the city departments, previously scattered throughout the city, were now under one roof. By 2016, more office space was needed, and the city purchased the police station just behind city hall.
